Farmer Field School Graduation

Over forty livestock farmers will graduate today after completing a one-year training program at the Farmers Field School (FFS).

The farmers, all producers of small ruminants (sheep and goats) were involved in the Farmers Field School from June 2013.

Home Gardening Training Program

Twenty three householders, accompanied by a number of students of the Langley Park Primary School, are currently involved in a one-week training program on home gardening.

Reports Of Lobsters Sold During The Closed Season

The Fisheries Division in the Ministry of Agriculture,etc. says it is investigating reports that persons are selling and serving Spiny Lobsters during the closed season.

Acting Chief Fisheries Officer, Jennifer Cruickshank Howard, is reminding persons that the sale and possession of lobsters is prohibited during the closed season which runs from May 1st to August 31st.

Mrs. Howard said persons found violating the regulations will be liable to a fine of up to five thousand EC dollars ($5000), under the fisheries regulations.

Mrs. Howard explained that the closed season is designed to facilitate the reproduction of the species.

Coastal Management Program

The Fisheries Division recently collaborated with the University of the to hold a Coastal Management program.

Fisheries Officer, Chris Isaacs tells NBC News that a thirteen-member delegation from the University of West Indies visited the state from March 17th to 21st.

He said during the program the UWI students conducted programs in Coastal Zone Metric Skills, beach measurements and other programs of coastal management.

Mr. Isaacs said a number of other state agencies also participated in the program which assisted the Fisheries division in its own coastal management program.
