The Extension programme is the main vehicle through which the policies and objectives of the Ministry are communicated.  Through the Extension programme technical guidance in the latest production methods and choice of enterprises are disseminated to all farmers, with objectives being:

• More economic usage of available land through appropriate choice of crops.
• Greater productivity through the employment of appropriate production methodologies.
• Education and training of farmers in the development of business acumen, farm management techniques and rehabilitation of soils.

The Agricultural Officer is responsible for the coordination of all agricultural programmes in the Agricultural Region to include Extension, Animal Health and Production, Soil and Water Conservation, Agricultural Data Collection, Propagation and Fruit Crop Production.

The Senior Agricultural Officer, Extension, provides overall coordination of the work of the Extension and Advisory Services.
