Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Saboto Ceasar, has noted the importance of the trustworthiness of farmers to the success of the Farmers Support Fund.

Minister Caesar made this statement  in Kingstown where the first set of Farmers Support loans were distributed. The Agriculture Minister is confident that the Fund will enable the farmers to succeed.

Several Farmers have already benefited from the Farmers Support Company’s six million dollar Loan Program.  The first batch of farmers received their loans yesterday at an official Distribution Ceremony at the Agricultural Input Warehouse in Kingstown.

The fund, which is as a result of a grant provided by the Venezuela-based Petro Caribe initiative, will provide concessionary loans to farmers at two percent interest.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Raymond Ryan, told reporters that the Revolving Credit Facility is a timely intervention, given the challenges being faced globally.  He also said that, in addition to the loan, farmers will receive fertilizer and tools on credit.
