Wednesday 31st March  saw the launching of an essay competition here, which focuses on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and its practice in the Eastern Caribbean.

The Ministry of Agriculture, in conjunction with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IIAC) and the Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (JCCCP) launched the competition, which is targeting organisations working in agriculture in the OECS.

The Farmers’ Organisations, 4H clubs and any other eligible stakeholders can enter several essays that focus on unfarmed technology and how it can help with climate change.

The Climate Smart Agriculture essay competition runs from March 30th 2016 to noon on May 30th.

And Chief Agricultural Officer- Ashley Caine is calling for more focus to be placed on agriculture in schools across the country.

Speaking at the launch of an essay competition, Mr. Caine noted that St. Vincent and the Grenadines continues to place great emphasis on educating the youth.

He added that the youth must be made to understand how to go about preserving the fertile soil SVG can boast of.
